Getting Started

The PortableConnect Rehab System is a portable system that enables clinician monitored rehab from the comfort of home.

The PortableConnect Rehab System is an FDA-regulated medical device prescribed by your physician. The system has several different modes, captures information during your sessions, and enables clinicians to monitor and adjust your therapy plan over time.

The therapy plan begins with gentle, passive movement where the system moves your legs for you. As your recovery progresses, the system automatically increases your range of motion and begins to engage your muscles. You are in control of your therapy session and can decrease your activity level or stop system movement at any time.

Once your doctor prescribes the PortableConnect System for at-home recovery, a home rehab coordinator (HRC) will contact you to begin the process.

When it is time for delivery and setup, a certified PortableConnect System delivery agent will contact you to schedule delivery to your home.

No. We set everything up for you and help find the best place in your home including an appropriate chair to sit in while you do therapy.

Usually 20-30 minutes. We stay until you feel comfortable.

You can call 888-374-0855. A specialist is available to help answer any questions.

Using the PortableConnect® Rehab System

No. The system is very simple to use, and your daily therapy sessions are programmed for you.

Yes, virtually. A licensed clinician will be monitoring your progress during your therapy program. You may not see the clinician on the screen during therapy, but they can observe your session to ensure that you are on track. They’ll contact you when necessary.

Just pick back up with your daily sessions as soon as you can and reach out for support if needed.

No special equipment is required. All you need is a suitable chair to use during your therapy sessions. When we deliver and set up the PortableConnect Rehab System, our team will help you choose the best chair for your therapy. In most cases, a sturdy chair without armrests, such as a dining room chair, works best.

No. The PortableConnect System fits comfortably in most living rooms, bedrooms, or home offices.

Safety & Monitoring

Safety is crucial to your recovery. From setup to therapy sessions, your safety is at the forefront of the at-home recovery program. At any time during therapy, simply press the red stop button to discontinue pedal motion.

Press the red stop button located on the device to discontinue pedal motion. If you have a serious medical emergency while using the device, please seek immediate medical attention by calling 911.

For non-emergency situations, please contact customer service at 888-374-0855 and speak to a specialist who can help resolve any issues you are having with the device or therapy.

Yes. You stay in control. Press the red stop button on the device to stop pedal movement at any point in time.

Working with My Surgeon and Physical Therapist

It depends upon the specific recovery goals and protocols that your surgeon has prescribed for you. In some cases, the PortableConnect System is used as a stand-alone form of recovery. For other patients, the system is used in conjunction with outpatient PT. Each surgeon’s recovery protocol is unique, so it’s important that you follow your surgeon’s advice and complete all prescribed forms of recovery.

Yes. Your surgeon has access to an online portal which contains clear updates about your therapy compliance and your progress.

Absolutely. Many caregivers sit nearby for comfort or help.

Your program can be adjusted to match your surgeon’s instructions.

Program Logistics

Your doctor will determine the right length of time based on your recovery needs. Most surgeons prescribe between 3 and 5 daily sessions over a period of 30, 42, or 60 days.

We schedule pickup of the device and ensure you have next-step instructions. You can also call 888-374-0855 to schedule pickup.

In most cases, it is best to complete your full recovery plan prior to traveling. Speak with your surgeon for all post-surgical recovery timelines and any restrictions.

Cost & Insurance

Like all medical treatments, your insurance coverage depends upon each health plan’s specific policies. The program is covered by Medicare Part B and many Medicare Advantage (Part C) plans. Commercial coverage varies.

Once we receive your prescription, we exhaust all options to obtain coverage and assist with any out-of-pocket costs. Our goal is to help ensure that every patient has a path to at-home recovery.

Also, at-home therapy is billed in separate components, much like a surgery. You will receive one bill for the PortableConnect® System and a separate bill from the clinicians who monitor your therapy.

Your copay and out-of-pocket costs depend upon the insurance you selected, and the timing of when insurance claims from other procedures like surgery are filed.

We provide you with the costs that your insurance company quotes for the at-home recovery program. The team works hard to provide full financial transparency to patients.

In many cases, the out-of-pocket costs we quote you before receiving the device are higher than what you actually owe once we process the claim.

Yes, Medicare Part B does cover the at-home recovery program, as well as many Medicare Advantage plans.

Commercial coverage varies, so it’s important to let the team of insurance specialists work on your behalf to try and obtain coverage. They use a variety of pathways to secure coverage with each insurance.

If insurance denies coverage, we offer ROMCares and a financial hardship program for patients who qualify.

We use a variety of partners to bill insurance for the PortableConnect System including HealthROM, IMS, and Canfield.

ROMTherapy is our clinical affiliate, and they bill insurance for the clinical management portion of your program.

Contact 888-374-0855, follow the prompts, and the appropriate specialist will help you understand any bills or EOBs (Explanation of Benefits) that you receive from your insurance company. An Explanation of Benefits is simply a breakdown of what your insurance agreed to cover.
